FATAL ACCIDENT AT MANGAPEEHI.
One Killed, Several Injured
A shocking accident occurred on Wednesday last between Te Roa and Mangapeehi, by which Ivy May Reid, aged eleven years, daughter of Mi> Reid, of Otorohanga, was killed, and several persons injured. About midday the trucks from Te Roa were running to Mangapeehi, loaded with logs, and a party consisting of Mrs Munro and her sister, Miss Angrove, Mrs Meynell and child, and Ivy May Reid, were making the trip to Mangapeehi on one of the trucks. When some distance had been traversed the king bolt of the truck gave way, with the result that the truck was partially overturned, and the party thrown to the ground. The log on the truck came off and rolled on to the girl Reid killing her instantly. Miss Angrove was severely injured, and was sent to Taumarunui by Wednesday's train for treatment by Dr Cairns. Mrs Munro escaped with slight injuries, and Mrs Meynell and child were considerably bruised, and all naturally suffered severely from the shock. The unfortunate victim was only on a holiday visit to Te Roa and after the inquest the body will be brought to Otorohanga for interment. Miss Angrove is a step-daugater of Mr Thompson, of Te Kuiti. The extent of her injuries are not yet known, but it is feared she is hurt internally.
