THE RECENT FLOOD.
TO XIHi KDI'IOK. SIR, —The Te Kuiti milk suppliers were sufferers through the flood, eight of them not being able to reach the factory for days. The Te Kunii and the Mangaorino roads, where I hey traverse the Mangaokcwa stream, being in some places six to eight feet under water. To add to their troubles, the factory well was covered by about 10 feet of water. For this, they have no one to blame, except themselves, for allowing the factory proprietors to obtain water from a source so likely to be contaminated, by even a very ordinary flood. In connection with the Mangaorino road, it is to be hoped that the officers of the Roads' Department will at once take steps to make the necessary deviations, so as to keep the road level well above high floods. If this is not done at once, compensation may be demanded by the holders of sections affected by such deviations. Attention has already been drawn to the matter, but, so far, the department has neglected to take any steps.—l am, etc., BUTTER FAT. '
