RAILWAY FACILITIES.

The necessity for increased train service to the King Country was brought before the Minister for Lands, during his stay at Hamilton. Messrs J. W. Ellis, P. R. Coledrook and J. B. Teasdale advocated the alteration of the present time table from Frankton to Te Kuiti, so that the trains would serve to carry King Country settlers to Waikato centres and back in one day. Mr McNab promised to bring the matter before the Minister of Railways, who would reply direct to the request. Such an answer to the deputation was the only one which could be given by the Minister, and it is satisfactory to acertain extent, inasmuch as it serves to keep the matter moving and show the Department that both the King Country and Waikato are in earnest in their demand for a betterment of the unsatisfactory conditions which at present exist. It is gratifying to see that the Waikato people are interesting themselves .thoroughly in the matter, and by the combined representations we may look for the attainment of something definite. As Minister for Lands, it may not be considered Ministerial etiquette for Mr McNab to interfere with the management of the Department of a QolTeague, but when we consider how 'much the prosperity of settlers depends upon decent railway facilities, and how much at heart the Minister for Lands should have the j

welfare of the settlers, it is surely reasonable to hope that Mr McNab will at least rank himself on the side of the agriculturalist and pastoralist, and endeavour to help them to accomplish their reasonable and just desires. The Minister for Lands is to tour the King Country during the summer, and we trust the settlers and residents throughout the Rohe Potae will unite in again bringing this matter before him, unless a change for the better is made in the meantime.
