OTOROHANGA.

The Native Land Cotirt sitting at Otorohanga has been adjourned till December 4th, Judge Sim having to proceed to Wellington immediately. The Court is to be re-opened on December 4th, and will be presided over " temporarily by Chief Judge Palmer, and it is understood that Jid;,e Ma jr. will then take iip the work. The Maniapoto-Tuwrn retca District Maori Land Board, which opens at Otorohanga on December sth, will be presided over by Judge Brown. It is understood that in future applications for consent to leases and for removal of restrictions, are to be sent direct to the Board, insteat of to the Under-Secretary at Wellington, but snch applications will require to be lodged in sufficient time to allow of them being gazetted. The want of a permanent president for the Board is - greatly felt, and the appointment of an official to the position would have the effect of greatly facilitating business. At present the temporary appointment of different people means that the president hardly has time to acquire a grasp of the business before the Board, when he has to go away, and the incoming president has to go over much of the same ground. The Land Purchase Officer has been suggested as a suitable president, and such an appointment would meet with very general approval, both for thc-reasons stated and other considerations. Before adjourning the Land Court at Otorohanga, Judge Sim congratulated the Native Agents upon the l manner in which they had conducted their cases, and said that it had facilited business, and contributed greatly to the smooth working of the Court. In reply, Mr W. Grace, Land Purchase Officer, and ?Pepene Eketone and others, thanked the Judge for the able manner in which he had presided and adjudicated upon the cases which had come before him.
