MrR. Bell, of the Harihari : flaxmill, who was ill with influenza for some time died last week. Mr Bell was highly esteemed in the district, and wrs a prominent athlete, being" captain of the Ml rakepa Footbcll Club, and an excellent rifle shot. Mrs ill with the same complaint, passed away on the Wednesday, only surviving her son by a day. The deceased lady only came into the district a short time ago from the Wairarapa, and was greatly esteemed by a large circle of friends.

The wool is now coming in from the out districts for shipment, many of the farmers having already finished their shearing. The first meeting of the newly elected Town Board was held on Monday last, when Mr McCardle was elected Chairman, and Mr J. K. Newton was appointed Secretary pro. tern. The business was chiefly of. a routine nature, committees and delegates being appointed to confer with the County Council, and the clerk being instructed to write to various bodies with reference to reserves, hospital site and other matters. There has been some controversy with reference to the legality of the recent Town Board election, and it is reported that a petition may be lodged to test the question.
