The New Zealand Cup, run on November 3rd, was won by theTaranakiowned horse Star Rose, with Multifid, a horse from the same province second, and St Joe third. The Melbourne Cup, run on November 6th, was won by Poseidon, with Antonious second, Proceed third, and Dyed Garments fourth. The winner, who, on the previous Saturday had accounted for the V.R.C. Derby, started second favourite at 9 to 2, the New Zealand bred mare Solution being favourite at 7 to 2.
