MAIROA.
. It is intended to extend the postal service beyond Mairoa, and Mr Greenslade, has been informed by the Postmaster-General, that a tender has been accepted for a service between Te Kuiti, Oparure, Mairoa, Ngapaenga and Mangaohae. The site is not yet definitely decided, but it will be either at Ngapaenga, or Mangaohae, from ten to twelve miles past Mairoa. With the old service it took some ten days to communicate with Auckland and obtain a reply. The settlers on the Ngapaenga road propose installing a telephone service for their own use, and the necessary material ihas already been obtained. This line will be of great service to the district, and should in time connect with the line to be put through to Mairoa.
Bush felling is proceeding apace in the Mangaohae and Ngapaenga districts, about 1000 acres being felled on the various sections in the vicinity. This area will be a fine addition to the grass carrying country, and when stocked, will materially assist the progress of the district. ,
