Mr J. Williamson inspector of the Roads Department, who has had charge of the northern part of Mr T. Burd's extensive district, resigns at the end of this month, his dutiesrbeing taken over 4 by Mr E. J. Early, who for some two-years has been inspector at the Ohura end. ' Mr Early will probr ably reside at Otorohanga. It will be news to many of Mr J. Hetet's old friends, now living olitsrae the King Country, to know that he has retired from the management of the fearding house which he has carfiea on in Te Kuiti so successfully for close on ten years.
M. Northcroft, S.M., left TeAwaniutu for Taumarunui last Wednesday where there is a big list of cases. Mr C. W. Hursthouse, the Chief Engineer%f'Roads, who had returned to Wellington, having almost recovered from his recent illness, has, we have been informed, not been so well lately. Messrs H. Collins, Gillies and Hine were some of the members of the legal fraternity, that went up to - the Taumarunui Court
Mr H. Armstrong has been appointed by the Kawhia County Council to prepare plans, etc., for the works oil the Okupata Road. Dr. Bronte, formerly a resident of Wanganui, who visited Te Kuiti this week, expressed himself as wellpleased with the prospects of the township. z ■ Mr K. Newton has been appointed harbour master, and wharfinger at Kawhia. This gentleman is also the County Clerk.-. ; ■ " >' \. Mr A/S.'Lafad, of Taumarunui, has been to Wellington recently, moying in the matter of raffing timber down the Wanganui river—a matter that so vitally affects the welfare of Taumarunui. •*....
Major Lusk, of Mairoa, paid a brief visit to Auckland this week in connection with the sitting of the Board, which was held yesterday.;' . Mr Golfer,, of Palmerston, North, who has disposed of a 400 acre property in that; district, has been having a look round the. King Country. ' • ' ~
Mr Sayers will take the place of Mr Early as overseer for the Roads Department in the Ohura district. Mr Esdaile, who was recently married, has returned with-his :.bride to Mangaroa, where he was warriily welcomed by the settlers.
Mr Anderson of Wanganui, who purchased Mr McCardle's farm-at Awaroa, has taken possession. Mr Allcock is the manager in charge of the Te Rau-a-moa factory, which opened early this month.
