The N. Z. Exhibition.

Good progress is being made by Ml- Ayson in the const)Action and equipment of the aquarian). Mr Vicent T. Tayloi-j aeronaut of Sydney, has made a >|roposal to the authoritiet to give a display of balloons and parachdtoß.in the grounds. The terms AW favourable, and the proposal is® • ng considered. 0 Code’s brass band of lißtlboiirne, will be amongst the c<®ipetitors in the quickstep and gra»d selection contest, to be held in pebruary at the Exhibition. Excellent entries arc joeing received for the inusicai aOl elocutionary competitions, which will take place in December. J An order has been issued forbidding cyclists to take their machines within the Exhibition gates. . . . The visiting rouga nativs -were conducted over the Tourist Department's geyser exhibit. Tha method of cooking in a natural steam-hole and the awesome delights of geysers and boiling mud were explained to them by some of the Rotorua Maoris with pardona blc pride. The Chairman of the Exhibition Executive Commissioners has received the following communication from Fiji relative to the Fire Walkers from the Island of Bega : “ It is my intention to leave Suva on the (sth December, arriving in Christchurch on the 15th. On the 17th, the natives will be employed getting the pit ready, and I expect they will light the fires either on the evening of the 17th, or very early on the 18th. The public will be admitted on the morning of the "Bth, and the ceremony will begin at 11 a.m., and for the first performance, if not for all, everyth!ng will be exactly the same as if the fire walking were done at the original Island spot. All the stones, wood, creepers, shaddock poles and native ropes will be used, which will be brought frem the original pit. This is a show that you can place before the |jffi)lic with the greatest confidence. There is no trickery about it/, and up to tne present ti me no medical or other scientist has been able to. discover how the natives can stand the terrific heat, My present intention is to take twenty performers, but it may be necessary to take thirty, as there is talk among the tribe that all must go. The cost will be considerable, hence my anxiety to get as fa vourablc dates as possible, and sufficient time to ensure my being recuperated. If j the num can stand it, and I believe they can, 1 will give a performance each day from the 18th to the 24th. and. after seeing how the ground is lit up, I will probably arrange one or two night performances, when the details may not be so easily seen, but the show will be much more wierd. 1 am sure the Commissioners will do all they can to make this a success, for it is only as a special favour to the writer that His Excellency the Governor has allowed these men to leave Fiji. They have never been away from the Islands before, and will probably never be again.”
