At a meeting of the Young N’e w Zealanders’ Land Settlement Association. held on 24th April, correspondence was read from the Cheviot and Waiau Settlers’ Associations re railway extension. i It was resolved that that the hon. the Minister of Lands be respectfully requested to forward to the Asso .iation the report of the commission appointed by the Minister to report on the sui ta bill ty of ; the lower portion of the Clarence Valley for close settlement. It was also resolved that in the event of the rep >rt of Lie Commission being ad verse to the settlement of the Valley, a petition be I presented to the Kaikoura peopl ■ ; tw signa tn i e. graying the Minister of Lands to h ive a survey made of the Valley in order to ascertain the cost of reading it, and to take the necessary measures to render the Valley tit for close settlement, which alone will save it from becoming absolutely sterile. Messrs George Eaton and Walter Gibson, sen., were appointed delegates of the Association as members of the proposed joint deputation from the various Associations i ntereste<l in the more speedy i completion of the Wa i pa ra-Seddon Main Trunk Railway line, which ■ will proceed to Wellington during I the ensuing session of Parliament. I in order t > urge on the Government the necessity of a large ani intal expenditure on this line.
