MARKETS.
The Agent-General, in a message dated London, Feb. 14, says the cheese ma rket is dull, with a downward tendency, owing to poor demand —the average price of finest New Zealand cheese is 49s to 50s ; Canadian, 51s tb 525. Hemp market is quiet, with a tendency in favor of buyers; good fair Wellington grade on spot and in any other position is £32 a ton. Mr H. Collyns reports that at his sale on Saturday sheep sold well, but there was no demand for cows in milk. Ewes and lambs (all counted) made up to Bs, three-quarter-bred lambs selling at the same figure. Cows in milk brought £6 12s 6d, yearling steers up to £3 10s, and two-year-old steers up to £4 Ils. Pigs (weaners) realised 9s. Another sale of furniture and crockery will be held by Mr Alf. Crossey next Saturday. Five tons of wheat will also be offered.
