London, Feb 13 Ivan Sjubamovic, travelling from Pittsburg to Carlsbad, arrived aboard steamer Majestic, was charged at Liverpool with concealing 18 pounds of dynamite and 360 detonators in the false bottom of a trunk. He declared he was a miner returning to Bohemia, and that he intended to explode rocks and improve his father’s land. St. Petersburg, Feb 13 During century celebration of the poet Runeberg, at Helsingfors, the British flag, which was hoisted on the Consulate was lowered by command of the police, while the French flag was allowed to fly on French Consulate. The British Consul protested t» General Bobrikoff, Governor of Finland, who permitted rehoisting of the flag. Chief of Police subsequently apologised to British Consul. Christchurch, Feb 15 Mr T. E. Taylor, M.H.R., is threatened with a libel action in connection with certain remarks made by him during last session regarding Captain Seddon and his appointment in the New Zealand Defence Department. Dr. Findlay is acting for Mr Seddon. It is understood that Mr Taylor has been asked to withdraw his statements, and to apologise, but that he has no intention of doing either. Dunedin, Feb 13 In a test case at Mosgiel a Taieri farmer was fined 40s and costs, under the Noxious Weeds Act, on a charge of not clearing Californian thistle off his land.
