Long Distance Swimming.
London, Sept 12 Holmes started on his swim from Dover to Calais, but abandoned the attempt after two hours, owing to squally weather coming on. Madame Isacescu swam the Danube, from Melk to Vienna, in 12| hours. (Madame Isacescu is a famous Viennese lady swimmer. She has performed many daring feats, and is said to contemplate the Channel swim. Melk is 47 miles upstream from Vienna.)
