THE DREYFUS CASE.
PARIS, Jan 2
The Court of Cassation, in its enquiry into the Dreyfus case, has examined Esterhazy’s mistress. She confessed to .sending the Blanche and Speranzle telegrams which played a prominent part in the earlier phases ot the case. Ultra-secret and other dossiers have been shown to Madame Dreyfus’ counsel.
Latest reports state that Dreyfus' prison treatment has not been relaxed.
American Affairs.
WASHINGTON, Jan 2
Aquinaldo reported to have lied to Cavite to escape assassination, has evaded surveillance ol Americans. It is fee red this will lead to resistance to Americans.
Natives of Ponipe, one of Caroline group, have massacred the Spanish garrison. American garrisons in Cuba number 30,000 ; three additional regiments being sent to reinforce them.
Germany and Russia.
ST PETERSBURG, Jan 2
Kouropatkin, Russian Minister ol War, presided ut the Centenary Celebrations of Russian Military Academy ol Medicine. He announced that be was authorised to tead a letter from the Emperor of Germany to the Cz.ir. The letter, written in French, eulogised the Academy, and assured the Czar ol unalterable friendship. It was signed * Your brother anti confrere.’ Ihe reading of the letter caused great excitement. It is believed it was written with the idea of showing that any Anglo-German agreement, or the Emperor’s journey to the Holy Land, will not affect the interests of Russia.
