DUNEDIN, March 5 At the criminal sittings yesterday, in a charge against S. Mercer, of wounding with intent, jury returned a verdict of not guilty, and Mercer was acquitted. Justice Dennistun said he had received a letter, signed ‘Christian,’ asking him to deal severely with Mercer. He had handed the letter to the Crown Prosecutor in the hope of finding the writer, who, if brought before him, would be dealt with severely.
