Government Appointments
The Hon Mr Cadman has agreed to accept the portfolio of Minister for Railways. Mr Ronayne is to be General Manager, while Mr McKerrow retires from the Railway to become Land Purchase Inspector under Native Land Acquisition and Lands for Settlement Acts. Mr J. L. Scott, the other Commissioner, has been ‘ shunted ’ off the track altogether; it is said he was offered, but declined, a minor railway position. Various other changes have been decided upon in the Railway service, whereby a saving of from £3OOO to £4OOO a year is anticipated.
Mr T. K. Macdonald has been appointed one of the two North Island Valuers under the Advances to Settlers Act ; salary £5OO per annum.
