TO STAND THE SEASON, At the Owner’s Stables, Green Street Farm, The Pure-bred Clydesdale Colt (Bred by W. Boag, Esq., Canterbury) Cliiel" of" Avon, (Foaled October, 1800), BY CONQUEROR. CONQUEROR won First Prize at the Christchurch A. and P. Show, 1889, as a 3-year-old. His sire, Pride of Scotland, imported (602*), the winner of a great many prizes in Scotland, in fact never was beaten, was the Champion Horse in Canterbury for years. The same might be said of his stock. One mare bred by Mr Boag, sired by Pride of Scotland, took Gold Medal at Metropolitan Show in Victoria. Conqueror’s dam, Gentle, by Renfrew Jock (imported), from Victoria. Gentle’s dam, Betsy, by Thane of Clyde imported from Scotland. The dam of Chief of Avon is Duchess of Salisbury (566), by Lord Salisbury (114), imported. Dam Maggie Bell, by Ivanhoe (113 —388*), imported. Dam Scotch Annie (549*) imported. Prizes won by Duchess of Salisbury : 3rd Prize at the Taieri as a 2-year-old ; 2nd in Dunedin as a 3-year-old ; Ist at Taieri as a 3-year-old : Ist at Milton as a 3-year-old, and Champion of the Yard. The Duchess of Salisbury took several prizes in Christchurch. Lord Salisbury’s prizes are two numerous to mention. He was never beaten in New Zealand. Ivanhoe, Maggie Bell and Scotch Annie were also great prizetakers. The above pedigree will sbow that there is no better bred colt in New Zealand than CHIEF or AVON.
