It appears that the deceased gentleman had been attacked with influenza and bad almost recovered when a relapse occurred, which terminated in death at 2 o’clock ibis morning. The deceased gentleman had been in the Bank's service for 2G years, about 20 of which had been passed in this province. The London Times, in a leaning article, congratulates the Australian colonies on their returning prosperity and their show of surpluses. It considers the proposed loans must be judged each on it own merits, and if the proposal of the New Zealand Treasurer to extend the late Mr Ballance’s policy of lending money to settlers at a cheap rate of interest were successful, its importance could hardly be exaggerated as it seems likely to settle one of the most .pressing social questions of the day. The writer thinks, however, that the utmost caution in needed in dealing with the question.
