Financial Statement fell very flat, even among Govt supporters. Many parts were received with derisive laughter by Opposition. Debate commences Tuesday. Probable Legislative Council will be adjourned for week, as business is sent up very slowly from House. Second reading of Industrial Conciliation Arbitration Bill carried in the Legislative Council. Auctioneers’ Act Amendment Bill passed by Upper House, with amendments. Juries Act Amendment Bill passed through Committee The Ls»u- : i Tax Bill. pfbviding_for, imposition and to enable it to collected August passei& through ;>’( stages in House. Resolution passed by House thaw provision in English law enabling* judicial separation to be granted sumarily when a man has been convicted of an aggravated assault upon his wife should be adopted in N. Z. House resolved in favour of placing Hospital and Charitable Aid system on more satisfactory looting. Land Tax Bill passed into law, the measure reaching its final stages in the Legislative Council yesterday. Tbe Council also considered Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Bill, and struck out a provision enabling District Court Judge to act as President of Court of Arbitration in default of Supreme Court Judge. In the Representatives, a Bill providing machinery for a University College in the middle district of N. Z., was read a second time, after long debate. A Bill licensing second-hand dealers read a second time. Gaming Bill was passed. Several local Bills, including Wellington City Drainage Empowering Bill, and Wairarapa Hospital District Bill, advanced a stage.
