FOOTBALL

A match has been arranged between the team which represented the local Club against Waiau and a fifteen got together by A. Clemett (the challenger). The following is Clemett’s team

Full-back : J. Gibson. Three-quatcrs : L. Burney, Happi, A. Clemett (Captain). Halves : H. Schroeder, W. Laugesen. Forwards : J. Lowe, F. Close, J. Harris, J. Harmon, D. McDonald, W. Roberts, C. Smith, H. Smith.

The match is to be played on Thursday afternoon. If the object of the promoter is a sportsmanlike one, and is the outcome of a spirit of healthy rivalry, it deserves encouragement. But should it have its origin in spleen and bitterness of feeling, owing to the exclusion of one of the players from the rep. fifteen—iu consequence of his misconduct —then it is prompted by ungenerous desires. The play will be closely watched on Thursday, and any of the contestants guilty of improper conduct (either wilfully rough play, or objectionable language) will be noted and his name published.

‘ After the football is over— After the field is clear— Straighten my nose and shoulder ; Help me to find my ear.’

The Wellington College hoys downed the Dunedin High School fifteen by 10 points to nil. The College youths had the beet of the game throughout. Tripe, McAra, Hales, Holyoake and Cameron were the best of the winners, whilst Macdonald, Carter, Patterson, Fenwick, and Shand showed up well for the visitors.— Wellington Herald, 14th July.

Taranaki beat Wanganui by 2 goals and 3 tries to 1 goal.

CHRISTCHURCH, July 20 Match Dunedin High School v. Christchurch High School won by local team by 16 poiuts to 9.
