Police investigating confession of Lees, Barraba murderer, which is a rambling statement, to which not much credence is attached. It is unlikely to affect his execution tomorrow.
In Metropolitan and Suburban electorates over 70,000 votes were polled, of which 41,500 were for Free Trade, 12,300 for Protectionists and 16,600 for Labour candidates. The country returns are incomplete, but approximately 4000 supported Free Trade, 5400 Protectionists and 27,000 Labor candidates. Fully two-thirds of electors of Colony voted according to Local Option League. Majority of new House favor its principles. HOBART, July 19
