The British Army.
Important Changes Predicted.
HOB ARI’, June 29
Special cable message to Tasmanian News states that important changes are imminent in connection with British Army. involving many material changes as to leading officials. It is reported on most undoubted authority that Lord Wolseley, at present commanding forces in Ireland, is to assume Commandership-in-Chief of British Army in October next. Rosebery Govt has intimated to present Commander-in-Chief that he must retire in autumn, as bis ideas are too old fashioned, and he has not kept himself abreast of requirements of times. The Govt is determined that large number of reforms shall be introduced into administration, and many crying evils redressed. It is imperative that before next Army Estimates are submittted to the House of Commons certain reforms shall have been effected, and all obsolete regulations and munitions of war done away with.
