Fire occurred today in railway branch of Colonial Secretary's Office, and threatened destruction of the magnificent building devoted to that department. By soma exertion flames were mastered, and damage confined to portion of top floor. Damage is estimated at £lO,OOO. Letter received by Govt from Johannesberg- suggests considerable benefit would accrue to Colony commercially if it were represented in South Africa, where markets offer increasing facilities for sale of many colonial products. Schooner Mary, belonging to London Missionary Society, wrecked in Papuan Gulf. All hands saved. Mysterious murder reported near Mackay.
