In an ounce bottle put a piece of phosphorous the size of a grain of corn. Pour in olive oil heated to the boiliug point until one-third full, then cork tightly. When wanted, uncork, and the action of the air will make the space above the oil bright enough to see several feet or to look at a watch. As it is impossible for a flame to form, this is perfectly safe. The glow lasts from two to five minutes and may be renewed by again removing the cork, which each time should be replaced at once.
