A Melbourne Sensation.
MELBOURNE, June 16
A very sensational poisoning case is alleged to have occurred at Richmond. Man named Lewis Junker died on June 6th, and his brother afterwards visited his housekeeper and was taken ill. Symptoms denoted arsenical poisoning, and body of Lewis being exhamed, showed similar traces. Warrant issued for arrest of housekeeper, Mrs Neidel. MELBOURNE, June 17
Police are vigorously investigating antecedents of Mrs Neidle, in custody on charge of poisoning two brothers Junker. Bodies of her husband and three children will probably be exumed. Police are in possession of information showing that her children displayed similar symptoms to Junker’s. One child died in 1885, another in 1890, and third in 1891. Husband died in 1889. All four were insured for £lOO a piece, which Mrs Neidle drew. Among letters discovered is one from accused to surviving brother, with whom she was enamoured. It complains of her treatment at hands of Mrs Junker, sent., when latter came to take back dead body of her son Louis to Adelaide, and contains this sentence, ‘ Remember this, the day you cast me off for you mother, you will be motherless, for I shall kill her.’
