Sir JI. O’Rorke Elected Speaker.

WELLINGTON, Today Parliament was opened by commission yesterday afternoon. Weather fine. The Governor's Speech will be delivered this afternoon. After the Members of the House of Representatives were sworn in the House proceeded to tbe election of Speaker. Sir Maurice O’Rorke and Major Steward were proposed, O’Rorke winning by 45 votes to 19. Mining industry to be assisted. Opportunity to consider Liquor question will be afforded, by a measure to consolidate and amend the Licensing law and simplify proceedure at local option poll. House to have opportunity of dealing with Railway management. Reform of Parliamentary proceedure indicated. Bill to prevent loans at injurious rates of interest to be introduced, also legislation for improvement of conditions of manual labourers.
