MELBOURNE, June 1 In debate on Address-in-Reply, Shiels trenchantly criticised Ministerial policy, and declared the Govt’s records was one of’ blunder, bluster and boast, full of empty, wretched performances. He ridiculed invitation to Duke and Duchess of York, as such visits only tended to increase toadyism and flunkey ism. He moved, as an amendment, that House regrets that Parliament was not called together earlier to deal with depression and unemployed. Debate adjourned. PERTH (W.A.), June 2 Parliament has dissolved. Elections take place towards end of the month. Revenue has already exceeded the Colonial Treasurer’s estimate, and it is expected that before the end oi the financial year there will be a surplus of £60,000. MELBOURNE, June 1 Application for a new trial in case of Hayes, jockey, v. Awstfrnfiwan, in which Hayes claims £5,000 damages for libel, has been struck out, owing to non-appearance of parties interested. Juue 2 Seddon has cabled to Patterson suggesting that joint protest against Harcourt’s proposal to levy death duties on colonial property held by persons dying in England. Patterson has replied promising to instruct Agent General to move in the matter.
