In forwarding the Inspector’s examination report on the School, with the Standard lists attached, the Secretary says : —lt is an exceedingly good report. Inspector’s Remarks: —The results of the present examination are of a very gratifying description. In the Infant Deparment great improvement has been made within recent years in the methods and quality of instruction, and as a consequence the children are now making very commendable progress. The reading of all the classes in this division of the school (under Mrs Sandford) is accurate and intelligent, and the counting proceeds on good lines, the class in P 3 being particularly bright in this subject. In writing, drawing and spelling—subjects which require more mechanical treatment—attainments are all that could be desired.
Standard 11, taught by a second year pubil teacher (Miss Mabel McLauchlan) makes a good appearance, and the very efficient condition of the class in .Standard 111 reflects credit on the teacher, Miss Rowley, who is also deserving of commendation for her successful treatment of drawing in the higher standards. The Examination of the upper classes Standards 4 to 6 (under Mr Borthwick) presents all the features of excellence that we have learned to associate with the work of the Head Master. There is a weakness in the spelling of Standard V.; and a few members of Standard IV., mostly pupils
who have been irregular in attendance, or who are possessed of only moderate [ capacity, show some defects in composition and grammar. But these are small blemishes in a performance of high average merit in which admirable qualities of thoroughness and intelligence are very generally prominent. L. D. W ood, Inspector.
