Dairy Factories.
From the Akaroa Mail we find that considerable enthusiasm is being manifested on Banks Peninsula respecting; Dairy Factories. At a meeting at Little River, when it was decided to start a factory, the Chairman spoke at some length on the many advantages to from creameries and factories, and having recently visited rnuny of the principal dairy factories in the North Island he was in a position to afford valuable information on the subject. During his address, the Chairman said the advantages of the factory system were the quantity of butter obtained was larger and more uniform. More cream could be obtained from 1 gallon of milk, and the butter realised 2d per lb higher in the Home market. The milk received at the Tikorangi factory, North Island, for nine months was 2,766.799ga15, which produced 114.1’30 lbs of butter. The cost of manutucturing was under per lb. The butter realised 9d per lb ano the net resu t to milk suppliers was 3Jj i per gallon. The Tai L’apu dairy farmers make from £8 to £l2 per cow during eight or nine mouths of the year. One prominent farmer realised nearly 30s per head fur his cows for one month.
Other speakers pointed out the various advantages and benefits fl aviog from the Dairy Factory svstein. Bri- flv they are : Tha' the cooperative system is a great advance on private dairying ; that dairy farmers get better returns; that much drudgery is saved ; that labor is created in a district ; that more butter is produced from tbe same quantity of milk, and that factory butter always realises tbe highest price. It was estimated that a cow would produce from 2 to gallons ot milk per day.
