Remarkable Fact.

Mr E. G. T. Gooch Kindly supplies us with the following : Some years ago, I think in 1859 or 1860, an American barque, the Alexander, a South Sea whaler, struck on the rocks about Flaxbourne and was beached on the Boulder bank, mouth of the Wairau. Some of the crew were drowned beaching their boats. A lot of oil and empty casks were got out of her before she broke up, but the only thing oi value that was washed ashore was the grindstone. As the sea drove it up the handle anchored it.
