A very popular but blind count lives ih the Champs Elysees. Being witty and musical, his society is much sought after. He left Paris three months ago; and on his return called on a fashionable marchioness who was preparing to go to a fancy ball. She begged to be excused, but ns he had an important message to deliver he was shown in, and being of course blind, he was asked to take a seat in her boudoir. Gossip ensued, and during all the rime the marchioness, assisted by her maid, executed the mysteries of her toilet. Being ready to descend to her carriage, the count stated that he had been absent in London, and had undergone a successful operation for cataract, and could noW see as well as the marchioness. The latter shrieked, and jumped into her carriage without even an au revoir to her unwelcome visiftir.
