TO OUR EUROPEAN FRIENDS.
The principal object of the proprietors in publishing and printing such a paper as the Jubilee, was to afford useful and interesting instruction those Maoris who were not conversant with the English language. With this end in view, a number of specially written and highly instructive articles, printed in Maori, are now appearing in this paper.. .We are also arranging with some ;of our best known authorities for a number of contributions on the early history of New Zealand legends, and Native matters generally, these will; undoubtedly prove of great interest to our European readers, as they will be printed in English. A great amount of expense is entailed in introducing a newspaper to the public, and although we have had a. measure of support from some of our business people in the shape of advertisements, yet the number of our European subscribers is small, this is no doubt is attributable to the fact that so few have been canvassed.
It is the intention of the management to put on a canvasser, so that this matter may be systematically carried out. We, therefore, hope that all who wish ..to assist in the enlightenmentpf. the Natives, will 3o so by advertising in our columns, or becoming subscribers, thereby furnishing us with the means of carrying on our work. With the help of our friends, we hope, at an early date, to be in a position to increase pur staff, and enlarge the paper.
