THE GARRISON BANDS.

A most enthusiastic reception awaited our band on their return from Napier last Saturday night. On the exit of our boys from the train, three deafening cheers were given by the hundreds assembled at the station. They then marched to the Drill Hall, playing part of the way the march which brought thetri victorious in the quick march contest, followed by another rattling quick step. • They had a good time, and speak in excellent terms of the treatment received at the hands of the Napier people. The following honours were secured, much to their credit, seeing the short time they have been under the conduct6rship of Conductor Crichton First in Marching Contest, value in cash and 12 brass Music Stands value £6 6s od; second in Championship Contest, tying with Jupp's Private Band (Wellington), 2nd prize /50 and 3rd prize £25, the tying bands divided the stakes; and second for the Challenge Shield for highest aggregate. More power to you boys ! The band speak most highly of the hospitality shown them by Landlord Cohen, of the "Star" Hotel, Napier, where they put up. On Friday evening last, Mr Cohen entertained them to a most sumptuous dinner in honour of their snccess. Our boys request us to remind our Whanganui friends not to pass Host Cohen by when visiting Napier. So says the Jubilee.
