TIIE Provincial Council of Otago being dosirous of stimulating invention, tnd securing the use ol gold saving apparatus in connection with hydraulic mining adapted to the purpose of extracting gold from auriferous earth mora ' completely than any of the machines or methods at present in use, has voted the sum of £250, to bo offered as a bonds for the iv vent ion of such uu apparatus, subject to such competition aud regulations us his Honor the Bupprmtendeut-inttj.. ieem iit. s Notice i»- hereby gjvo». in with the vote of the 'Couucil, that plans and proposals for such uh apparatus will be leceived for consideration, up till the first duy of August next ensuing. The following particulars are published for the information of intended exaibitor? of plans. The plans and proposals will bo submitted to a body of judgs.*", composed of experienced miners, uud such other persons ss his Honor the Superintendent may appoint, and in considering them the following pohfts will be kept in yiew : — 1.
