A nngro named George Williams w« recently hanged at Springfield, Oeorgin, U.S., for murdering bis infant son. . Wi) liams, as it appeared by the evidence" given at bis trial lost his temper one day because his child was backward in learning to walk. Having started it tyro or* throe times across the floor, only to se? ifc totter and fall, ho could no longer curb his indignation, and seizins a barrel stave beat it severely over the back and 'bond. Finding that it was still* notwithstanding this trea f racnt, unable to wsilk, he held is over the fife until one of its feet was'severe» ly scorched. He then threw it on the ft >o-\ stamped on it, and finally crushed its head in with a large box.: Being con* victed of murder in the first degroe, hewas sentenced to he hanged; but through some technical error iv the proceeding he obtained a new trial, was again cons ricted, and again sentenced to death. Hipnso was then carried to 'the Supreme* Court, but with only the same result, and he at last resigned himself to his fateThe scene at bis execution was very touching, a hymn being sung nt the foot of the snaffJd by a choir of fire colored men. Williams made a short speech, expressing a hope that all present might meet him in a better world. The deputy sheriff then adjusted the noose, the trap, was sprung, and in two minutes Williams waa dead. •• He felt," he stated, " his way to glory."
