At i Lawrence there was loud rumbling, and ■ at Roxburgli heary lightniDg at the same . time. ; ChhistchU'Bch, October 10. AS th» Magistrates Court to-day, D. Murpiiy and H. Wykes, commission agents, were charged with conspiring to defraud a man named Harnmil. It appeared tbat Kammil recently applied to IVJurphy for a loan, and Murphy advised him to sell his stock, none of which had been paid for, and lell hi» creditors bis business dikl not pay. Hammil agreed. Murphy paid £20. and with Wykes removed stock worth £'80i on Saturday night,, inishing at five o'clock on Sunday morning. The case was adjourned,, bail being refused. The Governor hns commuted the sentence of death passed on Karl Kelaedefor murder to tbat of imprisonment lor life. It is rumoured that the projected Alli.« anee Insurance Company has completely fallen through.
