NIL DESPERANDUM.

Fiudat, September 28. The operations of the past week have been confined chiefly to the lower level, and every foot that is driven on the reef tends to confirm the opinion expressed in my last report, and from the result of the past weeks proceedings it must be asiumod that a really valuable lode will be proved to exist in this mine Since the stone was first struck, about 16 feet has been driven oa the lode, in the first ton or twelve feet, tho face carried an average of about fourteen fochei of stone, the last 4 ftiet has disclosed a great improvement, and this morning there ii fully 2 feet of a reef,, from which spectmeu stone of exceptional richness was produced. Although tho ncoskiag |afc the present time is about 20' feet inside-ihe old Ledge boundary.it must be borne in mind that tho level now being opened is HO feet below anything previously known or explored, and tkat a more »olid formation of country is being penetrated, and the gold boaring appearanc© of the qiurlz recently found with the general chanctor »f the lode is entirely so different to that obtained in th» upper working,. thM it is thought to be a now make-of atone altogether. It i»» however, |of tUe utmost value and importance to ifbid &he great improvement in the quality of the lode upon a lower lovel, and being now -iO fuct below the level of the Inangahua rive*, disclosing stone cirrying large coarse gold superior to anythiag previously kuown ia the same ground are facts from, which we-saay look forward to a g?eat fu4uro.
