A numerously attended meeting of the. Cathpljcs ojc Reeftoi^ was held a,t the Catholic Church on. Sunday, 20, th August for, the purpose. O.E- discussing, the. Education Bill which, the. Government b^ave, introduced. The Ee.r. Father Carew w,aß. voted to the Chair. The Chairman gave a reaump of fch,o Bill as. it stands at present, reviewing, it in. all i,ts various aspects, and after explaining how objectionable it was to the. feelings of. the Catholic body, in general, said that the best way to mark their,. ! opinion of the Bill woujd bp in, the form j of resolutions: : The following resolutions wore unanis mously adopted :— Ist. "That, in the opinion of this, meeting, the Educaf ion, Bill w.hiph the „ Government hav,e brought forward infcei;* tesjwith the rights of conscience, ap.d Ithatj account is unjust ;. it prohjbita Catholic, teacher.s. from accepting office j unclqr the Board (see section. §5, subsection 3) y it provides, religious instructions in which Catholic children can take no.part, and is humiliating, to the Qatholio'bpdy generally." 1 2nd; «?
