OUR MINES.
MURRAY GREEK. i [FROM OUB MINING BEPOBTER.j NJL DESPERANDUM. Wednesday, August 15. The works during the last fortnight, although of a rather unpleasant nature, have progressed very favourably, and the steady operations from day to day appear to give every confidence in the future of the mine. The principle work which is attracting some attention is the opening out of a new level at a depth of 10Q feet down the shaft- The work of bailing out occupied several days, and tho level is now fairly opened out with a most encourag« ing indication that stone of an exceptionally good quality will be found to | exist in payable quantity. The level has I only beea driven for a few feet, and the | same detached blocks of stone or quartz * boulders have been struck, as was passed I through in sinking the shaft. There is ' one very promising feature in connection with these lower workings that is, everything in the form of gold bearing stone that has been found in this part of the mine is of a very superior quality, and as there is now a largo area of ground both north and south of the shaft, and 150 feet of maiden ground over head above the ; level now being opened, and also frcca the fact of very fair quality stone K>eing shown under foot in the tunne^ above, to say tho least, the mine bids fair to become . a payable proporty. The cross-cut in the old level has not yefc intersected stone, but the work is being continued with the full expectation of the reef being shortly struck on this level. The stone expected to be struck in this part of the mine is believed to be a distinct block altogether from tho one in the shaft. KEEP IT-DAEK. A very fine body of stone 14 feet thick continues in tho rise. A shaft from the surface to of on communication is to be commenced this week, and when completed, the full number of stamps will be employed. A very largo number of tho shares sold on Saturday were purchased by men thoroughly acquainted with the | mine and possessing good practical knowledge, which is n guanuUce of the claim having now become established as a profitable investment. INDEPENDENT. The now low tunnel in conrsn of construction is now in about 330 U-et. Mr ,I'utler surveyor i.< now engaged in taking the levels for the water race. WEALTH OF NATIONS. The contractors engnged breaking stone , nppcar to carry out their proceedings with extreme regularity, nnd procure a steady . .supply of stone to keep the stamps fully employed. Tho reef now being stoped varips' from 12 to 4 feet in thickness. 'Some repairs to the Enterprise tunnel are being effected previous to another contract being let for the extension of the level. ANPERRQNS EXTENDED. Tho reef has now been followed for a distance 1 of 60 feet. ' From tho old winze 40 feet north' and 20 feet south,' nothing has yet been done in the way of proving the reef down, but it is the general opinion that as far as the reef has been 'proved it promises a payable yield. MACEDONIAN, In all probability at the commencement of the forthcoming week the sound of the - stampers at Andersons old battery will once more be heard within the walls of the machine-houseman event which will be hailed with mucn satisfaction not 'only by the residents of Black's Point, but by all who are interested in the general welfare of the district.' The first parcel of atone to be put through will be from the 'Macedonian mine, the appearance 1 of .which, although slightly mixed with mullock, carries good gold. The tramway is now perfect in every respect for the speedy ,and easy transit of stone, and to speak of ; the work according to its merit it must be pronounced the best in the form of tram- ' •,way construction throughout the whole '< distriot, and certainly if any company has ' deserved success it is the promoters of the i above undertaking. *' i . . ,
