The Gorernment declined to print wig* gestions of C >imty Councils find K-md Boards with a view of improving. County Government in future as the documents, are too voluminous, The Government said, in reply to Mr. Richmond, that they bad no intention to relieve Hoad Beards from compulsory aanual valuation. Government informed the House that nil the Marine laws of the Colony are being consolidated, and the Hill will be brought down this session. Government expect to be able to do something this session respecting the closing of cemeteries within all towns. The Auckland Highway Districts Valuation Bill and Crossed Cheques Bill were passed. A sharp discussion ensued on the latter, to make any cheque under £20 negotiable even if crossed on the ground of great inconvenience and loss to poor men, who could not gft crossed cheques cashed. Several amendments were proposecUbut each attempt failed.
