LADY FLORA HASTINGS.

A tragic memory is all that survives of this ill-fated bedchamber woman to the Duchess of Kent. She died a,t Buckingham Palace so long ago as July 5, 1839, when Queen Victoria had only been two years on the throne, and little more than four months a bride. Her apparent condition excited the attention of an exalted personage, and the breath of scandal compelled her to quit the Court, of which down to that time she lia I been an ornament. She retired into obsurity to die of a broken heart, and of dropsy, the symptoms of which had been so sadly misunderstood. By this time Lady Flora Hastings would probably have passed, into obijvion were it not that some people have a knack of reviving defunct memories and ghostly shades. Tw,o female, relatives oi;. connections of the de« ceased lady have just erected at Castle Donnington Church a memorial, tablet to perpetu.ate her name. The Hastings family itself is now extinct, the last marquis (who ruined himself on the racecourse) having died of gambling and excess at an early age.
