A determined attempt to suppress gambling in the city is about to be mado, the police having received instructions for that purpose. Calcutta sweeps in publichouses are understood to come within the meaning of gambling. CHRisTcnracH, July 19. A system of selling tickets on railway trains has been established here. Nineteen travelling ticket sellers have been appointed. The working hours of the clerical employees on railways, previously 9.30 to 430, have been altered to 9 to 5, with no extra pay. 1 Further advices from London speak most favorable of the Canterbury marble, and state that it would find a ready market if of reasonable price. The Marble Com - pany have ascertained they can ship marble at a nominal cost as ballast, and so expect to open up a trade with England.
