OUR MINES.

MURRAY CREEK. [from our mining reporter.] ANDERSON'S EXTENDED. Wednesday, July 11* The proceedings of every day at thi* mine continue to command considerable attention, and ahares are constantly changing hands at a steady advance. The nature of the works during the past week affords no room for lengthy comment. Preparations have been made for cutting out a chamber on the side of the winze where the reef i 3 exposed, and sinking on the stone will be commenced towards olose of the week. Stone of exceptional richness was met with last week on sinking on the reef, some three or four feet before cutting out the ground for. tho chamber, and the reef as now exposed appe^s to be increasing in thicknoes. NIL DKSPERA.NDUM. This company commenced crushing ? again this morning with five scamps. The reef scarcely shows as favorable an ap* pearance in the stopes as it exhibited on the main level, which certainly denotes an improvement both in quality and formation as- the lode is followed towards the lower level, and there is overy reason to believe that the opening of the shaftlevel will disclose a body of stone very superior to anything obtained nearer the surface. The curve in the tramroad will be completed in a few days, and the lower works immediately started. KEEP-IT-DARK. Owingto the first contractors giving up their contract, a stoppage at the battery was caused for several days. A fresh tender having now been accepted, work again started, and crushing operations recommenced this morning. VICTORIA. A steady course of prospecting has been carried on in this minefor some time past. A body of stone a few weeks back was met with, showing very good gold, but did not prove to exist in such form as to warrant great expectation. The latest intelligence from the mine this' week is that some really good stone has again been struck, and the reof presenting itself in a most promising aspect, shares havo accordingly advnnced, and are changiug hands at a higher figure than they have realised foi* a very lengthened period. It is, however, necessary to await the result of further operations before any definite opinion is expressed as to the general aspect of tho mine-. DEFIANCE. Since my last report,, preparations have been made for cutting out a chamber and the work completed. Driving along the reef is now commenced, and some really good stone is being disclosed. ■■ i."_j'.' •._
