Mr Dick was of opinion that iSSenSePvT should be accepted, as hefelt cerfcmrtha# & the work could be done for Terr laid&^U less. In any case he thought they subaia^S dispense with the footbridge and erect a^fe dray bridge at once. , S Mr Davies said that tbe cost of a dray ■■ bridge would not be less than £2500 by Mr Woolley that a dray bridge coald be erected at a very much less sum than that stated. Mr Dick reckoned Ihe cost of a dray bridge at £800, and felt sure it could be erected for that sum upon deferred pay* ment. Mr Aiken said that Graham and Allen had made an offer to the Board to construct a dray bridge upon moderate terms. Mr Davies said he had spoken to Mr Alien on the unhject, and the latter' gave the cost as £2500, which was merely a rough guess. Mr Kelly said the matter had already *been so fully diseased that he could not see the necessity o e prolonging the matter further. He would, therefore, second the resolution. Mr U'ck would propose as an amend* ment, that none of the tenders sent in b 6 accepted, being all too high. Mr Aiken seconded the amendment. . The amendment was then put and lost, i the rotes beiug Ayes, Messrs Dick, , M'Lean, and Aiken, and Noes, Messrs Brennan, Kelly, and Davies, and the Chairman gave bis casting rote with the 1 Noes. The original resolution' was then put i and carried. At this stage of ihe proceedings, Mr ' Dick rose from the table and expressed 1 his intention of resigning his seat at once,, and with these remarks left the <■ room. , Mr M'Lean expressed the opinion that p the Board had acted arbitrarily in thd , matter. There was three against three, and one side was entitled to as much con* ' sideration as the other, and it looked very , much as though the matter was be'ng I thrust down their throats. Messrs M'Lean and Aiken then also withdrew. 5 A number of accounts were then snb* I mitted, and having been passed for pay* b ment, the meeting adjourned, t « — -
