INDEPENDENT.

Wednesday, July 4 Ib is readily admitted that no company throughout the whole of this district, have in the face of many obstacles exercised greater perserverance in the derelopement of their mine than the shareholders in this venture, and although several mnnths must elapse before any actual return for the capital invested can be realised it appears now to be an acknowledged fact tbat this mine must ultimately become a great property and those who have for a space of foar long years patiently contributed their monthly calls to enable the works to be carried on will most assuredly receive in future a handsome remuneration for the untiring exertions they have bestowed in carrying out their undertaking. The works io course of operation in the mine itself do not admit of anything further being known now than was known some few months ago ; but the actual cause of an immediate advance §in the marketable value of shares during the last week is attributed to the faot of a really grand lode being exposed in the adjoining com* paoy's mme — the Energetic, where, within a few feet from the boundary of the Independent, 35 feet of a face of stone is sbown to exist and with no walls as yet visible and striking directly into this company's ground. Sbaros have in consequence been anxiously sought for, and there is no doubt tbat a general feeling of conßdeice now prevails as to the future of this mine, and which must eventually occupy a most prominent place in this field. The low tunnel is in 220 feet.
