BOATMAN'S.

[f ROM OUB OWN COBBBSPONRBNT.] There is no portion of the Inangahua district which gires greater promise of a prosperous future than this. There is hardly a olaim in the field which does not promise well. ETen the oat* aiders which hare hang fire for so long a a time, and hare been regarded with the utmost indifference, are gradually creep* ing into notice, and there is yery little doubt that before many months are over our heads we shall hare another tremendous stir in oar neighborhood. Nearly every mine in tbo district is manned, and prospecting work is being pushed forward with a rigor that loares nothing (o be desired. The Hopeful people are busy with their crushing, and owing to the quantity of stone exposed experience not the slightest trouble in keeping all the paddocks full. The mine is being splendidly wovked, and it seems a pity for the district no less than for the

shareholder* thai we hare not more stampers to feed. It will be seen, however, that the proprietors of the batteries are stirring themselves to supply this want, as a speoial meeting of the share* holders of the joint companies is called for the purpose of approving of a scheme for increasing the number of stampers. It is to be hoped that this is no firing off of blank cartridge, bat that the com* panics really mean business* for any further dallying with the idea will only put the Hopeful people on their mettle, and if they once make up their mind to go in for a crusher, it will not take them long to put the idea into execution. The Hopeful wize is still going down, with the same highly encouraging indications. The work of extending No. 4, Hopeful level into the Welcome ground is still being carried on, and it is expected that the distance will be completed in some* thing less than a fortnight. The JusMnTime are getting out some splendid stone, that from the winze being a remarkably fine sample. The stone from the stopes j is also of good quality, and there has on the whole been an improvement for the better in the mine during the past week. There is nothing of importance to report from the Fiery Cross. The shaft contract is being pushed ahead, and the contactors expect to finish in about a month's time. The battery is still hammering away, and , the blanket 3 look well for the time. '
