VICTORIA.
I visited this mine this morning for the purpose of asceruining the exact
nature of the new discovery reported some few daj s ago. The hands who were put on recently have bestowed their labours in extending one of tho cross drives on the north side of the main tunnel level, and have intersected a body of stone going towards the Phconix Company's ground. Since the lode was met' with the drive has been carried in some fifteen feet on the hanging wall, leaving the stone at the present time to the one side, and not having yet been cut through tbe character of the reef cannot at present be stated. A few days more work may in all probability expose a well formed body of payable stone. The lode when first struck would not be more than five inches, but from the appearance of the walls it would seem the stone is gradually opening out as^he drive pro ceeds. In the event . this stone being proved to exist K$ some dis« tanee in length* there will be a splendid back to work from. There are only two i lianas employed at tho present time, but Jj, believe the number is to be augmented by two more this week, aad in the course of a few days a better opportuity will be afforded of learning the true, nature of the discovery . ,
