HAIL. BRITANNIA.
The following lines are from the San Francisco News Letter .— To English hearts at home wo Englishmen Who dwell abvoad these words of greeting Bend ; , •„ Hot aiming to bo fine in speech at all, Or thintdng that su?h words can have much weight ; But simply to give issue to the love We have, though . exiled, from our native land. Here, when the passing of a century Is powerless to wipe au old feud out- 4 - > Nay, breeds bat scorn and hate, we daily see A sneer upon the lip at England s name— A sneer from those whose sires are of her blood, Ay, there are sons of hers whose recreant tongues Spit venom on the breasts that gave them .suck. But let this pass. The time, it seems, *~\ has come ' When deeds once more shall trumpet to tbe world The truth that England s glory has not waned. Then, brothers, brothers fling the old flag to the breeze ! Not fov the Crescent ; no, nor for tbe Cross; „ , But Ihat the nations of the earlh may l find , mt England has not fallen from her bigh estate. w^ Sfc, Geo/gei St. George! let the old battle cry Ring in the ears of those who dare her wrath. % What she has done, that can she do again— Ectchro tho world when glory is at stake. The Bosphorus shall yield he? fealty yet, The waters of the Nile shy 11 wash her feet. The Northern Dear shall turn him to his den And growl his homage to the .King of Beasts. Tben may tbe God of Battles fight her cause, And may her Crown gain glory in the strife.
