TELEGRAPHIC INTELLIGENCE.

I [BT ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.] | [PBB FBES3 ASSOCIATION.] Weimkoton, May 31. The New Zealand Government has received a telegram from the Home Government granting permission to Sir W. Jervois and Colonel Scratchley to visit New Zealand in order to re* port on Colonial harbor defences. These officers may therefore shortly be expected in Wellington. In reference to the complaints re the nonpayment by the General Go* vernment of subsidies to Counties, Road Boards, and Boroughs, it appears that in the Provincial district of Auckland alone 12 Counties, 119 Road Boards, and 2 Boroughs have beeu paid, and that the remaining 10 Road Boards and 5 Counties have not been paid as yet because they have failed to furnish those complete returns without which tbe subsidies cannot legally be handed over. The same applies to other districts.
