' ♦ [BY ELECTRIC TELEGUUPH.] [j»JBB PBESS ASSOCIATION.] CgfiisTCHUBCH, May 8. At the Akaroa Magistrate's Court on Friday a most barefaced case of perjury occurred. I. Adams was sued by H. G-. Watkins for an accouut of £19 for jewellery, &c, supplied to his wife and adopted daughter. Both the latter swore distinctly they had never bought any of the goods, the latter, a Miss Henderson, asserting they had been given to her by a Mr Delay raayne, to whom she was engaged. Watkins produced several witnesses, who proyed to the contrary. Ultimately Air Wil-
Hams, counsel for defendant, said it it was no use to call further evidence. There was sufficient to show the statements made by Mrs Adams and by Miss Henderson were false, and if the Bench would say that no information would bo laid for perjury, they should be re-called, and retract all they had sworn. Tbe Bench declined to give such assurance, and criminal proceedings have since been instituted against both the females. New Plymouth, May 8. In the Supreme Court, C. E.
